It began from ballroom dance – few years ago I decided not to sit in front of TV but fill my free time with something more useful. For few months I attended the ballroom dance classes – however, there was something missing there. I was interested in samba and salsa the most – energetic and spontaneous dances. Then the idea appeared – Cuban salsa. And that’s how I spent next months dancing in rueda. That was what I was looking for! However, first school wasn’t very satisfying for me. So the time for a break came. After next few months I came back – to a new place, to new people. And it was really great fun. We were dancing for many months very intensively – not only at the school, but also on salsa parties in clubs, home parties and etc.

Unfortunately it became the day when I felt very tired and didn’t want to continue dancing. I just wanted to feel happy on the floor and have a lot of fun – not doing technical exercises. Of course, I know that if you want to be a good dancer, you should attend technical classes. For me it was more important to have a lot of fun with great people. And that’s how the new era came – era of pilates – I’ve just wanted to try, but I stayed :) Lack of time causes that I can’t attend the classes as often as I want but I’m trying.
Where did it come? It appeared quite not long ago – at the beginning of XX century. Its name comes from the surname of Joseph Pilates who started practicing it. We was connected with sport form the early childhood. During the war he was working with people who had physical handicaps. At the end of 20-ties went to USA, where was improving his method with his wife. His main aim was to stretch and toughen all muscles in human body. You can find elements of yoga and ballet in pilates.
The best for me is that training pilates I can totally “switch off” and stop thinking about the world around me. Doing slow and very precise movements makes me not to think about anything ;) It counts only that moment when I have to focus on doing some action. You can think that’s so much easy – no! You’re wrong. This kind of movement can cause the biggest muscle sores next morning. Also, I like music which I can listen to during the exercises – it’s so relaxing. In one word – I can recommend pilates to everyone! :)
