KITCHEN: Benefits of red tea
Wednesday, February 12
Lovers (but not only) of tea remind that you can read two more posts about tea – green and white, so today is a time for their one – red tea. Ok, I drink it very rarely but the taste of my favourite Rooibos here is irreplaceable (till now of course). It’s the best for long winter evening and nights in front of computer screen ;) Red tea comes from China but it’s also produced in Taiwan. It’s called Pu Erh – name comes from the city Puer which is in Yunnan province – it’s commonly known as a place where tea is produced. I think that many of people see it in shops on tea boxes. There are special trees in Yunnan, called Qingmao and the have special leaves. The leaves are specially prepared – fermented and dried in special baskets. It’s a way of preparation known in China for more than 1000 years and probably it won’t change. It doesn’t have to – thanks to it, red tea has many benefits which I’ll tell you later about.
How to brew red tea? It’s recommended to use water without calcium and magnesium salts. For one cup, use one teaspoon of teat – water should have 95C – brew from 3 to 7 minutes. It depends how strong tea you want. You can brew leaves many times. Red tea will have intensive colour just after brewing it and will be redolent of ground and roots. If you’re traditionalists – brew red tea in porcelain tea jug and drink from porcelain cups. It’s also recommended to drink from 3 to 5 cups per day – you’ll be very healthy. I have to drink it much more! :) it should be drunk after eating without sugar!In the beginning I wrote about Pu Erh but it’s not the only kind of red tea. There are also:
1. Rooibos: it’s made from plant which grows in South Africa – country which isn’t connected with Asia. It has very specific taste – a little bit honey, mild and without bitterness. It doesn’t contain caffeine so can be given to children. In Europe it’s known from 30’s of XX century.
2. Oolong (Ulung): in Poland it’s known as red tea but in fact it’s blue or emerald. It’s produced for a long time and thanks to that it has noble taste.Ok, so now it’s time for the most important part of the post benefits of red tea:- contains a large amount of vitamin C, minerals, flavanoids and many other great ingredients;
- clears our body from toxins, thanks to antioxidants;
- helps to lose weight;
- relaxes and calms;
- reduces the level of cholesterol in blood;
- improves concentration and memory, thanks to teine;
- is diuretic, improves blood circulation, protects our body;
- accelerates the digestion of alcohol and helps to avoid a hangover;
- strengthens the immune system;
- supports liver;

So it’s time for me to brew my favourite Rooibos :)picture source: www.mountainroseherbs.com
