There is a next weekend now and we can relax and think only about pleasure. One of forms of spending free time can be going to the cinema. Honestly, lately I haven’t had any chance to go there and almost forgotten how it looks likes. But there is no obstacle to change it.
Let’s start from the beginning. The grandma of our TV is camera obscura. Maybe it’s more connected with cameras but it has a lot of common with cinema as well. It was optical device which allowed to show real pictures. Other device which is an ancestor of slide projector was laterna magica. It was developed around 1645. The most famous names in cinematography were Lumière brothers. In 1895 they made cinématographe to show movable pictures. On 28th December there will 118 anniversary of first projection. Then it was “Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory” and “Arrival of a Train at a Station”. With the second there is a funny story connected that viewers who were sitting the nearest were so much afraid of coming train that they escaped form cinema with hurry ;)
Firstly, cinema was based on documental films, just in the beginning of XX century first story films appeared. First full-lenght film was released in 1912 and first sound films were made in 1922. However I really like watching films with Charlie Chaplin :) Lately, summer cinemas are becoming more and more popular. You can lay on sunbed and watch films. The atmosphere is really nice.
If we talk about Polish first artists we can say about Kazimierz Prószyński and Bolesław Matuszewski. First one developed pleograph – it was a kind of camcorder which he filmed short daily scenes of Warsaw. The second one made documental films.
And that is how the story of big cinema centres looks. Next time I’ll take for a ride about 3D, 4D and even 5D ;)
