CULTURE AND LANGUAGES: Films from 50's
Friday, January 31
Today it’s a time for films from 50’s. According to many critics and connoisseurs of cinema it was the best decade for cinematography. I think it’s true. I’ve watched many films from 50’s and always come back with pleasure. Usually I don’t watch one film many times, but here it looks different. It’s also the time when television became more popular. It was advantages and disadvantages. From one side people could watch more films, from the other side – cinemas lost many viewers. It had an influence on methods which were used to encourage people to watch film in cinemas. In 1954 they started making films in technology which wasn’t available in TV. It was also great time for car cinemas. They were very popular, especially among young people. 50’s were great for Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra and directors – Elia Kazan, Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder and many others.Autor: Unknown Etykiety: American cinema , CULTURE , CULTURE AND LANGUAGES , films from 50's , golden age in Hollywood | 0 komentarze | Email This BlogThis! CULTURE AND LANGUAGES: Films from 40's
Friday, January 17
picture source: www.foxeventcenter.comStep by step I’m going to modern times but before let’s stop in 40’s. It was a great time for noir movies. It’s quite hard to say if it’s a separate kind or just mainstream – it’s not said till now. However, we know who created it – Nino Frank who used this term in 1946 for the first time. He was film critic and had his own words for noir films – “criminal adventure” or “crime psychology”. Noir movies were very often inspired by black criminals which were written then, but also black romances. This kind of films were based on pessimism which was in the world. It’s main features are femme fatale roles, complicated psyche of actors, scenes in dark cities. It’s also time when my favourite Alfred Hitchcock starts directing. Undisputed star was also Humprey Boghart.Autor: Unknown Etykiety: CULTURE , CULTURE AND LANGUAGES | 0 komentarze | Email This BlogThis! Share to X Share to Facebook |

CULTURE AND LANGUAGES: Films from 30's
Friday, January 10
picture source: www.screencrave.comAs on the previous, the same will be on this Friday and few next – today it will be dedicated to films from 30s. This period was for sound films – they eliminated silent films very fast. Nevertheless many actors didn’t lose their popularity – even it was a great time for them. To the greatest names we class Greta Garbo, Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart, Shirley Temple, Judy Garland, Kirk Douglas and many more. It’s also worth to say that from 1930 there was production code – the list of forbidden things and scenes in the cinemas. It also pointed the most dangerous effects. Of course it wasn’t any obstacle for producers – for example long kisses were paused by steamy whispers. In the middle of 30s first full-time animated films became popular. First one was made by Walt Disney in 1937. There is no doubt that 30s were the beginning of Hollywood’s Golden Age which was till 50s.Autor: Unknown Etykiety: CULTURE , CULTURE AND LANGUAGES | 0 komentarze | Email This BlogThis! CULTURE AND LANGUAGES: Films from 20's
Friday, January 3
picture source: peanutonthetable.comIn last post I wrote that 20ties were a moment when the cinema was silent and first sound films were made as well. So there was a big change – from pictures only with subtitles to dialogues which could be heard form cinema screen. That change broke many actor’s careers – mainly because of the language border. It was also the end of many producing companies which couldn’t afford to change the expensive equipment – it was Great Depression around the world (1929-1933). But on the other side it was a great time to develop musicals. For me 20ties are connected with funny comedies or melodramas with happy end. Below I chose the most famous films from this decade in chronologic order – some of them I’ve watched and the rest are waiting for their turn :)Autor: Unknown Etykiety: CULTURE , CULTURE AND LANGUAGES | 0 komentarze | Email This BlogThis! CULTURE AND LANGUAGES: Classical music
Friday, December 27
Classical music is one my favourite one. I’ve never been a fan of one, specific kind of music but I’m faithful to classical music from years. I don’t even remember how and when it started but it was long time ago. Classical music has many genders and they are for listening to, not for example for dancing or film music. Let’s see closer the genders of classical music. Of course I’ll write you only general information- if you’re keen on it, you should read some specialist literature.

CULTURE AND LANGUAGES: Museums
Friday, December 20
picture source: www.metmuseum.orgToday is the beginning of very special weekend :) Maybe it’s worth to use it for family visit in the museum? Of course if the cultural offer of our city allows it. I didn’t know but museum has its own definition in Polish law. I wouldn’t translate it but shortly we can say that museum role is to collect, protect and arrange collections. Then making the opportunity to watch them and creating sensitivity for culture.

CULTURE AND LANGUAGES: Cinema - the story in a nutshell
Friday, December 13
There is a next weekend now and we can relax and think only about pleasure. One of forms of spending free time can be going to the cinema. Honestly, lately I haven’t had any chance to go there and almost forgotten how it looks likes. But there is no obstacle to change it.Let’s start from the beginning. The grandma of our TV is camera obscura. Maybe it’s more connected with cameras but it has a lot of common with cinema as well. It was optical device which allowed to show real pictures. Other device which is an ancestor of slide projector was laterna magica. It was developed around 1645. The most famous names in cinematography were Lumière brothers. In 1895 they made cinématographe to show movable pictures. On 28th December there will 118 anniversary of first projection. Then it was “Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory” and “Arrival of a Train at a Station”. With the second there is a funny story connected that viewers who were sitting the nearest were so much afraid of coming train that they escaped form cinema with hurry ;)

CULTURE AND LANGUAGES: Philharmonic - being in heaven
Friday, December 6
picture source: www.emazury.comI recommend you visiting philharmonic during following weekend. My experience is not so big but very rich! My first visis was couple years ago and couldn’t be better :) I organized a small meeting with my friends and we went to a concert of German quintet – Quinteto Ángel (more info: www.quintetoangel.de). The concert was so so so great, boys were playing remarkably – with energy and passion. Their play is very good and I really regret that they didn’t play in Cracow this year.Let’s get to know with a story of philharmonic. Its beginning was in Italy – Bologna and Verona. During XVIII and XIX century a lot of places arose, in Poland it was in 1817 in Cracow – and it’s still here :) At the moment we have 18 in Poland – almost in each big city.

CULTURE AND LANGUAGES: Theatre - relict or developing art
Friday, November 29
picture source: www.aktywni.barycz.plTheatre is the most important kind of culture for me. The emotions which I feel during the play are compared to these from opera. I admire theatre! It doesn’t matter if it is comedy, drama or other gender. When I’m sitting at the audience, I can totally forget about world which is around me – worries disappear, thoughts about work, troubles and all the rest which are completely unnecessary in my life. I’m focused only on actors and their play. The beginning of the theatre is dated around 500 BC in Greece. There were City Dionysia in the spring and Rural Dionysia in the autumn. The first gave the beginning for drama and second for comedy. Both festivals were organized to worship god Dionysus. The first actor was set by Tespis and later the amount of actors had increased. Now it depends only from the capacity of the building. In the past plays had place on the mountain slopes where was good visibility – these places were called amphitheatres. Now we can visit them around the world.

CULTURE AND LANGUAGES: Opera
Friday, November 22
It’s very hard for people to understand why I’m interested in opera. A few of them can, fortunately :) Thanks to living in the big city I can use many culture goods. Opera is one of them. My first meeting with opera was connected with the ballet. Every year there is show when you watch students and their achievements. I watched sweet 4 years bees and butterflies, but almost adult principal dancers as well.
