Step by step I’m going to modern times but before let’s stop in 40’s. It was a great time for noir movies. It’s quite hard to say if it’s a separate kind or just mainstream – it’s not said till now. However, we know who created it – Nino Frank who used this term in 1946 for the first time. He was film critic and had his own words for noir films – “criminal adventure” or “crime psychology”. Noir movies were very often inspired by black criminals which were written then, but also black romances. This kind of films were based on pessimism which was in the world. It’s main features are femme fatale roles, complicated psyche of actors, scenes in dark cities. It’s also time when my favourite Alfred Hitchcock starts directing. Undisputed star was also Humprey Boghart.

As always I chose eight the most important, in my opinion, movies from 40’s.

    1.      The Great Dictator (1940): first sound film of Charlie Chaplin
