  1. Today it’s a time for films from 50’s. According to many critics and connoisseurs of cinema it was the best decade for cinematography. I think it’s true. I’ve watched many films from 50’s and always come back with pleasure. Usually I don’t watch one film many times, but here it looks different. It’s also the time when television became more popular. It was advantages and disadvantages. From one side people could watch more films, from the other side – cinemas lost many viewers. It had an influence on methods which were used to encourage people to watch film in cinemas. In 1954 they started making films in technology which wasn’t available in TV. It was also great time for car cinemas. They were very popular, especially among young people. 50’s were great for Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra and directors – Elia Kazan, Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder and many others.

  2. Today is high time to answer the question – what the molecular gastronomy is? Have you ever heard about it? If not, I’ll try to tell you a little bit about it – anyway, it’s really interesting. I haven’t had any experience with it yet but I think it’s just a matter of time when I’ll start doing experiments in my kitchen :) This kitchen is also called creative kitchen – mainly because you need there a lot of creativity, but not only! It’s based on scientific knowledge – if you’re scared of Physics, better not try it ;) However, if you like trying new things and science is not your enemy – it’s for you! The beginning of molecular gastronomy was 26 years ago! In 1988 two scientists – Nicholas Kurti (Hungarian physician) and Herve This (French chemist) created it. So we can tell that they’re fathers of molecular gastronomy.

  3. We’ve already known that people around the world use a huge amount of languages – do you know which one is the oldest language? It’s quite difficult to determine it, especially that even our great-great -great ancestors who lived in caves had to use some language. Maybe it wasn’t similar to any other language which we know now but still existed. It may be based on varied types of sounds, which symbolized specific words, sentences? Who knows that :) Scientists tell us all the time that in some part of the world has already died a person using some rare language. Therefore it’s difficult to determine which of them is actually the oldest. Of course we can still talk about several languages, which survived the long time – below I present you a list of five of these:

  4. Saturday is a great day to start a new topic on my blog- travelling :) I’m a vagrant and from time to time I feel the call of my nature and nothing will stop me before buying tickets to some amazing place. I’ve decided to start from my last journey – I’ll take you to the north-eastern Spain – to Barcelona! I’ve tried to go to Barcelona three times but always it ended in another city. Finally it happened in October last year. There was cold in Poland and in Spain … sun, 25C and short T-shirts. That was the best for me as a thermophile.
In travelling part of my blog I’ll focus on describing interesting places in each cities. Barcelona is a capital city of Catalonia which wants to be independent. It’s also second the biggest city in Spain and main center of maritime and flying transport. However, I was flying to Girona – cheap flying airport, which is around 100 km from the city center. It wasn’t a problem because transport is perfectly done.

I can’t count how many years I’m the fan of green tea. I think it became by accident – I just wanted to try something new. Before I fell in love with green tea, I liked drinking black tea with a lot of lemon. However, it’s not so healthy. Probably, together they produce aluminum citrate which can be harmful for people. Is it really like that? I think that we should think twice about it and read some researches. For me, from time to time black tea with lemon is the best in the world :) Let’s back to green tea – what’s this and healthy?
Green tea is a brew of China tea leaves. Young leaves are collected from bushes with a high attention. It’s necessary to keep them safe. Next, they wilt and are heated – it prevents from oxidation. Then leaves are curled and dried. Making of green tea is very quick process – it takes around 8-14 hours. Green tea can be brewed in Chinese way – pour hot water, then pour it out and again pour with water in temp. 70C. leaves can be brewed a few times. Times of brewing can be different as well – 2(3) minutes and you have refreshing drink, 5(6) minutes – relaxing one. As you wish :) I usually like short brewing.

Since my baking adventure began I wanted to do the meringue with fruits. I was reading and reading that it’s not so easy to do it, not always is ok and so on! It took me long time to find good recipe but finally I’ve made it! What’s more – it’s delicious ;) It didn’t fall or become wet – nothing has happened. I don’t know why people write such things but maybe they can’t do it. Let’s do the meringue! My recipe comes from my favourite blog, of course (http://www.mojewypieki.com/przepis/torcik-pavlova-z-malinami). As always it was hard to do it without any modifications ;) From this recipe you can bake two meringues – smaller one and bigger.

As I promised today I’ll continue the topic of the weirdest languages in the world. There are a lot of them. Please remember that there is no any clear criteria – I choose these which name sounds interesting for me or place where they are used is attractive. Today I’ll write about 10 languages – maybe many of them you haven’t even heard about.
          1. Pitjantjatjara language: used by Aborygens living in central Australia. It has only three vowels  – a, i, u. Writing is made in Latin alphabet. The longest word in this language is a name of hill in south Australia – „Mamungkukumpurangkuntjunya”, which means „where the devil urinates” ;)

Polish school system, as others, we can divide into two parts- public and private.
Children who have to go to school can go to school which they want or can. Of course the choice depends on many factors. Today I’ll investigate private schools which were created in Poland in 90’s of XX century after political transformations. From this time many private schools were created and they are led by non-public organizations or people. There are many different types of them – ordinary primary schools, artistic, language etc. below I chose some facts about private schools – however, they aren’t based on my own experience and maybe they need some verification but are based on common opinions.

Step by step I’m going to modern times but before let’s stop in 40’s. It was a great time for noir movies. It’s quite hard to say if it’s a separate kind or just mainstream – it’s not said till now. However, we know who created it – Nino Frank who used this term in 1946 for the first time. He was film critic and had his own words for noir films – “criminal adventure” or “crime psychology”. Noir movies were very often inspired by black criminals which were written then, but also black romances. This kind of films were based on pessimism which was in the world. It’s main features are femme fatale roles, complicated psyche of actors, scenes in dark cities. It’s also time when my favourite Alfred Hitchcock starts directing. Undisputed star was also Humprey Boghart.

I feel in my bones that there are only days to white winter with snow and cold. So I’ll need a big amount of warming up. It’s possible in many ways of course ;) One of favourite (beside warm blanket!) is delicious and very warm lentil and tomato soup. Be careful with lentil amount if you want to modify the recipe. I have bad experience with something which looked like gruel, not soup ;)

Till now I’ve presented you many different methods of learning foreign languages. Of course it’s not the end of this topic but today will be about something else. Do you know that nowadays people are using around 7,000 languages? – quite big amount. I think that some of them will disappear soon but other will be created. Have you ever thought which of them are the weirdest? It’s quite hard to classify “being weird”. Which measure should we use? – name, the way of pronunciation, or maybe location, amount of people who are speaking it? In the Internet we can find a lot of many different lists – I’ve decide to connect them and talk about weird languages being headed by name and origin. I think that all of you can prepare their own list of languages which you think are weird. Today (for the beginning) I chose 5 below:

What should we really think about television? Watch it or not? Devote time or not? Valuable or not? These and many other questions related to the invention of the 20's of the last century I answered myself long time ago. Today, completely subjectively, briefly describe them. But let's start from a tiny dose of history. The first television broadcast was organized between London and New York on 27th January 1928. Half year first color broadcast was made. Of course, the television started earlier, but it’s about first broadcasts. In Poland, it is considered that the precursor of television was  Jan Szczepanik, who in 1897 patented the "telektroskop" –  the camera to reproduce images at a distance by means of electricity. And so it started ...

I’ve always liked interesting ideas for example lectures in Historical Museum (not obligatory!) where I was the youngest participant or bookcrossing and many more. Few weeks ago I explored something new – postcrossing. Long, long time ago I was writing letters and emails with different people – from Poland and other parts of world. My writing was  global ;)
What is postcrossing? First step in you adventure will be registration on www.postcrossing.com. It takes a few seconds and you and you can be a member of the global community. I think that it’s worth to spend few minutes to fill your profile. Add information about your hobby, interests etc. It also will be easier to send you cards. If you have any special ideas about postcards which you want to receive, write about it.
I love traveling so will be happy to receive with city or country views. Don’t forget to add your address :)

As on the previous, the same will be on this Friday and few next – today it will be dedicated to films from 30s. This period was for sound films – they eliminated silent films very fast. Nevertheless many actors didn’t lose their popularity – even it was a great time for them. To the greatest names we class Greta Garbo, Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart, Shirley Temple, Judy Garland, Kirk Douglas and many more. It’s also worth to say that from 1930 there was production code – the list of forbidden things and scenes in the cinemas. It also pointed the most dangerous effects. Of course it wasn’t any obstacle for producers – for example long kisses were paused by steamy whispers. In the middle of 30s first full-time animated films became popular. First one was made by Walt Disney in 1937. There is no doubt that 30s were the beginning of Hollywood’s Golden Age which was till 50s.

Dancing is a really great idea to spend your free time and I can recommend it to everyone :) No matter what kind, the most important is that it has only advantages. It improves the physical condition, can burn fat, strengthens and tones muscles, relaxes and strengthens the spine. But not only that! It also brings psychological benefits – during the dance (as well as any other move) our body produces huge amounts of epinephrine, norepinephrine and endorphins, so that we have more energy and feel happier. It also allows you to get rid of complexes ;) Dance is often used as a form of therapy in various types of mental disorders, depressions and neurosis. Besides ... do not hide it, the visual benefits of dancing are indescribable :)

  16. KITCHEN: Spanish paella

    Wednesday, January 8

Be careful – your mouth can water after reading today’s post ;) I’ve found this taste last year in Madrid and this year once again in Barcelona. I love seafood and they are here – but I didn’t know that some kinds of paella are without them!  From me it’s not acceptable – it’s not the same with chicken. Of course it’s only my opinion – prawns, prawns and many other seafood. The best are fresh but unfortunately Poland is not on the Mediterranean Sea – it’s a pity! Nevertheless we can find all products in our shops without any problems. Of course I’ve made some modifications ;) but wait a moment.

The long weekend has just finished and it’s time to back to learning! Today a few words about method which can be used to learn foreign languages. It’s SuperMemo which was invented in 1985 in Poland. It was created by two scientists which weren’t linguists. One of them is a biologist and programmer – Piotr Woźniak, second one – doctor and biochemists, Edward Jacek Gorzelańczyk. Both of them are PhD at Poznan University of Medical Science. SuperMemo is a computer programme but not typical – it uses the properties of forgetting curve. The scientists discovered and described the algorithm of it and thanks to that, the method can be used now. So what SuperMemo is?

In last post I wrote that 20ties were a moment when the cinema was silent and first sound films were made as well. So there was a big change – from pictures only with subtitles to dialogues which could be heard form cinema screen. That change broke many actor’s careers – mainly because of the language border. It was also the end of many producing companies which couldn’t afford to change the expensive equipment – it was Great Depression around the world (1929-1933). But on the other side it was a great time to develop musicals. For me 20ties are connected with funny comedies or melodramas with happy end. Below I chose the most famous films from this decade in chronologic order – some of them I’ve watched and the rest are waiting for their turn :)

We’ve just invited New Year and I think that a lot of you have some wishes for next year. Maybe some of them are connected with staying fit and doing more exercises. And maybe you’ll make a decision to take up some martial art. Today I’ve decided to show you some ideas but I think that they aren’t typical. I haven’t even heard about them but they are interesting :)

    1. Cane-fu: name is from word cane and it uses cane ;) So it’s especially for older people who has this attribute. It doesn’t change the fact it’s quite unusual but maybe some of you are fans of this kind of gadgets :) In a word – don’t phunk the grandma (or grandpa) who has a cane.
